Epiphone wildkat case

Why, it even comes with a Bigsby. Lewis Turner slips on his blue suede shoes. Epiphone may be one of America's oldest instrument makers, having been around since and now in its rd year, but to a whole generation of players today it's known as the cheaper version of Gibson. That must certainly apply to the subject of this review, the semi acoustic Wildkat, which is a lot of quite complicated to make guitar well, compared to a Strat or an SG for what is not really very much money at all.

As before with Epiphones we borrowed our sample from a leading retailer DV The Wildkat is a cool looking guitar, our sample finished in a lovely Wine Red, with the Bigsby and double F holes giving it that real retro look. Fit and finish throughout was excellent and it will certainly turn heads.

Even unplugged the guitar resonates well and you can feel every note that is played, which is great. The traditional style headstock is quite a large affair, making it slightly top heavy but the tuners were good and stable. The glued neck is maple with a rosewood fingerboard, I found the fretboard and shape of the neck very comfortable to play as was the action and spacing between frets, there were no buzzing or tuning issues anywhere on the guitar, and thanks to the glued neck, upper fret access was fairly easy.

The two Epiphone P Dogear pickups are part of the Casino look and sound. I've always thought they were quite good, and the ones on this guitar were no exception offering warm mellow sounds in the neck position, with bright jangly tones from the bridge.

A three way selector switch makes things nice, simple and obvious, albeit a little fiddly to adjust on the fly, if you're not used to the selector being up there! This layout can take a little getting used to but once you are, you really can tailor a variety of sounds from this guitar not just the bell-like cleans but also biting crunch, and quacky out of phase.

The Wildkat is never going to be a full on Rock guitar, not least because of the issue with semi-acoustics and feedback, but it offers plenty to please most. The B70 Bigsby vibrato looks cool and goes with the whole vintage styling, though I'm not sure how sturdy it will be long term.

Tuning wise it seemed to stay in place, but only time and hard use will tell. I'm not a fan of Bigsbys in general as they get in the way of my picking hand, but that could just be a personal thing.

I have played a fair few Epiphone guitars over the years and have always liked them.

Epiphone Wildkat Review | Cool As Hell

As with many people when I first played one I was a little dubious after reading the spec and noting the price and I admit I approached them with a bit of a snobbish attitude, only to be pleasantly surprised with what was on offer.

That was true of the Wildkat, as well, except by now I know to expect a whole lot better from an Epiphone - and this one delivered. Sure, it's not quite up there with the higher end woods and the headstock makes it a little unbalanced, and there's also that bulky Bigsby, but for the price you really can't fault it, especially not in terms of playability. We use cookies to understand how you use our site, give you an awesome experience, and deliver our services.

Electronics Neck Pickup. Miscellaneous Strings.By weelerOctober 2, in Epiphone Electrics. I'd like a case for my precious Alleykat I don't want to knock the headstock off on my travels to rehearsals. What would be a fitting case for it?

I am not able to find the Epiphone original case anywhere around here. I assume LP case are too small, ES too big Maybe some Ibanez Artcore case would fit ok?! Any other choices? SKB cases can be a bit on the pricy side, but they are amazing cases and there is a size to fit just about anything.

I mean it, these cases are airline proof and just about the best protection you could ever ask for for your instrument.

I guess I'll just have to go around the shops to find a solution. I just thought if there who had a similar problem in the past. Actually I'd need a case for my Rumblekat bass too! Epiphone make a special case for the Wildkat and Alleykat. When I ordered my Wildkat, I had to get the dealer to order me a Wildkat hard case too and it took 3 months to arrive but it was worth it when it came.

It is a NICE case. You want one, trust me. Ibanez Artcore is a similar size but a different shape and probably won't fit.

I wouldn't risk it, and besides if you've spent the money on an Alleykat you might as well get the real deal case. I thought there was also a decent case that I saw a bit on eBay that was a good fit for the Kats and some Jay Turser guitar.

It used to be that you went to this brand when you had no money to drop on a Gibson, but you just had to have those aesthetics no matter what.

These days, the situation is different. The brand is expanding in various ways, even introducing some models which are reaching that Gibson standard of quality. One of the most notable additions to their lineup has got to be the Wildkat.

This instrument is tearing down guitar stereotypes left and right. How about both? At least it used to be that way. The reason for this was the level of craftsmanship that goes into these guitars, which makes them much more complicated to build than your regular solid body.

As soon as off-the-wall model hit the stores, you could hear the uproar from the conservative side of the isle. Were they right? This model is not your traditional semi-hollow where you have a center block of wood with a hollow body around it. The top is a laminate, covered with a flame maple veneer, which gives it a very authentic feel. The neck is a maple piece that features a modified LP profile and a relatively nice rosewood fretboard.

The answer depends on what you compare this guitar with. However, viewed through the prism of the price range it was built for, this is as close as you can get to that vintage sound. Epiphone has a lot of ground to cover before these two can be compared. Vintage tremolo bridges with Bigsby tailpieces are a nightmare to deal with, even on top tier guitars.

When they released the specs of this innovative creation, many gasped in disbelief at their choice to include these two components on a budget instrument. In all honesty, it was a huge gamble.

Some tune up might be necessary since they supplied a rather average set of tuners with this thing, but that is to be expected. This is where Wildkat takes a whole different path compared to the ESwhich features a set of humbuckers.

Right off the bat, this sets the backdrop of genres where Wildkat fits in. The pickups are wired to individual volume knobs for both pickups, a master volume, master tone, and a pickup selector switch.

Epiphone Wildkat Royale - Epiphone Wildkat Royale Review

A pretty average setup, but a practical one. Epiphone definitely rewrote the book on semi-hollowbody guitars, which seems to irk the snobs to no end in order to keep the price down and get the instrument on the market. What they managed to do is put the affordable pieces together in a way where it is able to give you a taste of a genuine semi hollow guitar, on a budget.

With two P90 pickups, this thing is just made for blues and rock. It has a great range, great projection, and a decent amount of sustain. It even allows you to dwell into the jazz territory, which is a big deal considering that many spend thousands upon thousands on semi and true hollows for that occasion.

These pups definitely have a bite in them, but they are well balanced by that body. Does the it sound like a high-end model?Beginner Guitar HQ. The Epiphone Wildkat semi-hollow guitar is one of those original Epiphone models. The times where you choose an Epiphone instrument simply for its Gibson aesthetics are over. They have become a fully-fledged musical gear manufacturer that covers the budget segment as much as the professional branch of the market.

In particular, the Wildkat is a recent addition to their shelves that stands out because of its attractive, almost luxurious design.

Is this guitar just a gamble? Or is it a reward? We already made a short review of the Epiphone Wildkat in that article. Additionally, you can check our previous guide on the types of electric guitars if you need some further info. Following the pricing pattern set by the original Gibson ESjazz-branded instruments are around the triple zero mark.

However, Epiphone has a lower cost than Gibson, even on its most premium offerings. The Wildkat is not a premium instrument, though.

Instead, this is a choice suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike. It also has an attractive and very antique natural white color which is sure to get compliments as you put this guitar out of its case. Gibson is the creator of the hollow-guitar. On top of that, Epiphone is also an expert when it comes to semi-hollow guitars for they offer some of the most popular models of the branch.

Overall, the Wildkat is a great combination of hardware, tone, built-quality, and affordability. And it wraps all of its goodies with a set of P90 pickups. The reason why most semi-hollow and hollow guitars are so expensive is that the craftsmanship is quite complicated. In particular, a semi-hollow guitar has two cavities beneath its body divided by another piece of wood.

But the Wildkat brings quite an argument to the table. It makes it look like a shy guitar next to the regularly big semi-hollow guitars. Most semi-hollow guitars have a single f-shaped hole, but the Wildkat uses two. That means the body was made first and then the luthiers carved the inside of the guitar.

This design choice is put to shame by fully-fledged professional semi-hollow guitars. However, at this price point, this is as close as you can get to the vintage sound. For example, I have to note that mahogany is an incredible choice at this price point.

Additionally, this is an arched-top design, which means the body is arched on the front and the rear for extra comfort and tonal quality. This guitar packs a mahogany neck with the classic Les Paul asymmetrical slim taper D-profile and the same A particularly amazing thing is that it has a glued-in neck, which gives you the most optimal volume levels and tones.

Even the most expensive Gibson guitars pack the same kind of set-in neck. At this price range, you would expect the classic bolt-on solution. The neck is pretty smooth, sharp-free, and fast.White is highly confident in the winner, but many people in your pool may be skeptical. I would be surprised if that unwelcome run ends following the visit of the champions, despite an improved showing from the Hammers at the Etihad last weekend. The hosts may well score but with Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata in such good form for the visitors, it is difficult to look beyond an away win.

The last time Watford won at Turf Moor in the league (3-2, April 2004) a certain Sean Dyche was in the Watford side, but if there is to be a winner when the sides meet this weekend I think the Hornets can nick it. Watford have scored at least twice in their last eight away games in the Premier League and if they can maintain that sequence, they could take the points between two sides who have been outstanding in the first half of the season.

Back-to-back 0-0 draws on the road for Crystal Palace and I think they will continue to climb the table against Bournemouth back on home soil. The Terriers have lost their last four Premier League games, are struggling for goals and I think these two newly promoted sides will share the spoils in a low scoring game.

The last time Alan Pardew managed a side at the Liberty Stadium (Crystal Palace, November 2016) they lost 5-4, but I would be surprised if we witnessed another nine-goal thriller at the weekend given the hosts have only had 27 shots on target in their 15 Premier League games so far this term. The Baggies have only won once on the road so far, this year and I think one goal might be enough in what promises to be a tense, nervous affair in South Wales. Spurs have disappointed in the Premier League so far this term and they badly need to get back to winning ways if they are to mount a top four challenge.

Premier League history will be made at Wembley if the hosts beat Stoke by four or more goals given Spurs have won the last three Premier League games between the sides 4-0.

A point may suit the hosts more than the visitors, but I expect to see an entertaining draw. The Gunners played some terrific football against Manchester United last week and they are unlikely to come up against a keeper as inspired as David De Gea was on Sunday.

The Saints are in decent form themselves, but I fancy Arsenal in what promises to be an open entertaining contest. Liverpool are high in confidence, have pace and power in abundance and it could be a very long afternoon for the Blue half of Merseyside. Romelu Lukaku scored in both games against City for Everton last season and if the striker were to get the winning goal in a Manchester Derby, it would be a pivotal moment in his United career.
